چکیده

New generations of smart phone based stereoscopic HMDs (Head Mounted displays) enter the mass market. As in content production for Cinema as well as for 3DTV, human factors and specific viewing conditions must be considered for the creation of new stereoscopic contents on smart phones. This article analyzes the stereoscopic viewing conditions in smart phone based HMDs and demonstrates how the viewing experience can be optimized. It also addresses the stereoscopic compatibility issue when adapting existing stereoscopic contents for smart phone virtual reality applications. The purpose of this research is to improve the stereoscopic parameters and comfort of virtual reality content in consumer applications.

Perspective Preserving Solution for Quasi-Orthoscopic Video See-Through HMDs

In non-orthoscopic video see-through (VST) head-mounted displays (HMDs), depth perception through stereopsis is adversely affected by sources of spatial perception errors. Solutions for parallax-free and orthoscopic VST HMDs were considered to ensure proper space perception but at expenses of an increased bulkiness and weight. In this work, we present a hybrid video-optical see-through HMD the ...

Towards Quantifying Depth and Size Perception in 3D Virtual Environments

With the fast advance of real-time computer graphics, head-mounted displays (HMDs) have become popular tools for 3D visualization. One of the most promising and challenging future uses of HMDs, however, is in applications where virtual environments enhance rather then replace real environments. The difficulty comes from the fact that the relative registration of real and virtual environments is...

Perceptual Issues in the Use of Head-Mounted Visual Displays

OBJECTIVE We provide a review and analysis of much of the published literature on visual perception issues that impact the design and use of head-mounted displays (HMDs). BACKGROUND Unlike the previous literature on HMDs, this review draws heavily from the basic vision literature in order to help provide insight for future design solutions for HMDs. METHOD Included in this review are articl...
